Skills shortage as a driver of automation?

According to a survey by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the market for service robots has developed rapidly. In 2022, around 158,000 units were sold worldwide, an increase of 48%.

The shortage of qualified specialists means that more and more service activities are no longer being carried out by human personnel and mobile robots are being used instead.

This effect is most noticeable in the transport and logistics sector. More than half of all service robots sold are used to transport goods. There has also been a strong increase in the use of automated helpers in agriculture and catering.

As an expert in automation technology, VWH develops customised robots for a wide range of handling, assembly and testing processes. The use of robot systems can contribute to a considerable increase in productivity even without the "constraint" of a lack of specialised personnel.
