VWH GmbH: Ground-breaking ceremony for new production centre in Westerwald, Germany

The expert for special machine and tool construction lays the foundation for optimized manufacturing and assembly processes.

"Whoever sells lean must also be organised lean himself," explains Managing Partner Thomas Sturm in his speech on 18.06.2019 at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new production centre of VWH GmbH. Under this guiding principle, the company from the Westerwald region is taking an important step towards continued sustainable, positive development in the future.

VWH GmbH is a specialist for automation, mould making and engineering. Its core competencies lie in the development and manufacture of complex automated production systems, inline systems for the manufacture of hybrid components and technically sophisticated injection moulds. The steady growth over the past ten years has pushed the company to the limits of its resources. "Our customers are increasingly demanding large and complex systems. The new production area puts us in a position to expand our range of services accordingly and to look after our customers entirely in the spirit of lean management," says Sturm.

With the new production centre, the company is well prepared for the next growth phase, and by February 2020 the production area will have increased by 3,000 m².

In the first of the two separated hall wings of the new section, production processes will be restructured. In addition, larger production machines will be purchased and the vertical range of manufacture will be increased. The climatic conditions will also be optimized. In the second wing of the hall, additional assembly space will be created for the realization of customer projects, so that individual customer requirements and simultaneously high quality standards can be met. Two overhead cranes will be installed in each hall section to facilitate the work. In addition, the new Technology Centre for Plastics will be integrated into the new space. This will complete the Plastics Technology division and focus on rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and additive manufacturing.

The VWH GmbH management team and District Administrator Achim Schwickert, Managing Director of the Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft des Westerwaldkreises Katharina Schlag, Association Mayor Klaus Lütkefedder, Hans-Peter Gerlach and Fabian Gerlach of the executing company Gerlach Technology GmbH & Co.KG as well as the members of the local council were present at the ceremony. "Today's date is the result of very good cooperation between the building authorities and municipal decision-makers", Sturm thanked the invited guests. Measured by the nominal gross domestic product, the Westerwald district is one of the strongest economic districts in Rhineland-Palatinate. The reasons for this lie in the diverse branch structures of the manufacturing industry. In the Westerwald district, for example, mechanical engineering is more important than the state average. "The VWH GmbH is to be seen as a jewel among the enterprises in the Westerwald", praises Klaus Lütkefedder.

VWH GmbH defines itself as a competence centre that develops samples and prototypes for its customers' new products as early as the development stage and then supplies injection moulds and production systems for series production of the respective parts. National and international companies from the most diverse industries belong to the clientele of the VWH GmbH, so groups of the automobile industry or also manufacturers of medical-technical products.
